I truly think there is nothing dearer to a mother’s heart than seeing how much her children love each other.  Case in point, yesterday my Julia was getting in the tub to get ready for church and asked, “Is Bella going to take a bath?”  “Yep, and Emily too.”  Her response: “Emily too?!  All my friends?!  All my friends are going to take a bath?!”  I am still smiling about it.

Saturday I had a session with the darling-est (yep, I’m going to say that’s a real word) 7-month little girl and her wonderful big brother.  You could just tell she adores him by the way her eyes just tracked him around the room.  He was so, so sweet back to her–so patient and kind and interested in her.  How lucky they are and will be to have each other as they grow up!

This one just made me giggle–he was trying to get baby sister to smile (On a side note, how fabulous are their outfits together?  Mom did such a great job!).

This is a better representation of their actual relationship:

After a few abysmal attempts on my own and some coaching from Henry, I finally made it through the whole alphabet without any mistakes–who knew my sleep-deprivation had gotten so bad?  He’s one smart cookie:).

And I could not get over gorgeous Lila’s delicious rolls, beautiful eyes, or those LIPS!  Mom and Dad are in trouble for sure.  I have his same shot w/a smile, but oh, how I love the hand placement, those wide eyes, and her little mouth in this one.

A session favorite–can you see her grabbing his foot?

Thanks for such a fun morning guys, and for alphabet lessons!

…and this is pretty much how we all feel about it:

When I asked baby girl at the airport if she was excited to go home and sleep in her own bed, she answered with a resounding, “No!”

“Well, where do you want to go?”

“I wanna go at another Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, baby girl, I don’t blame you.  We had a wonderful time visiting with my parents on Kaua’i.  We almost didn’t make it, as our itinerary changed without our knowledge and we missed our flight out.  Five hours, many phone calls, and a couple of really helpful employees of both United and Alaska Air later we were on our way.  We stopped over in Seattle and stayed the night at my parents’ home (we got to see some old friends and my little sister for a few hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and arrived in Hawaii 24 hours late, but not too worse for wear.  The girls are all great travelers and Jack slept much of the various flights.  Even so, the return trip home was a little brutal–leaving Hawaii at 11:30 p.m. Friday night and getting in to Albany at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.  I was feeling pretty much done with travel for a looong time.  However, walking out to the car in 10-degree temperatures had a little part of me thinking, “I wanna go at another Hawaii too!”

I’ve just now had a chance to catch my breath and am starting to return phone calls and emails.  A couple of galleries are due to go out, and they should be up tonight or tomorrow morning.  I am excited for all the babies I have coming up this month and can’t wait to meet them.  Keep checking back for both newborn yumminess and the little bit of warmth I was able to capture and bring back from our trip!

Despite the cold, it’s good to be home:).

Marie Gross: I loved seeing you, Jessica! Wish we could have chatted longer, but it was still so fun see you!

Pam Caudill: What Marie said!!

KaraRL: Sounds like you all had a blast. Such a sweet pouty face! Haven't stopped by in a while...really nice work Jessica!

I just wanted to give a heads-up that I will be on vacation for the next week.  I will have access to email and voicemail, so you four mamas who are due any day now are welcome to give me a call as soon as your little ones make their arrivals and I will get back to you right away.  All other emails and phone calls will be returned the first of February.

On a side note, my littlest baby girl turned three today.  I do not know where the time has gone.  What a pure delight these past three years have been.  Don’t ever let anyone tell you two is terrible–two is pretty much the honeymoon period of parenting–goofy faces, silly sayings, burgeoning independence, something new learned everyday.  Three, on the other hand, well… let’s not think about that right now:).

Anyway, what’s a blog post without images?  Well, boring, but that’s probably best left a rhetorical question.  We snagged a few quick shots before running out the door this morning.

I can almost hear the giggle in this one:

JuJuBe, just love you more than chocolate!   Happy Birthday, big girl!

Janice: Awww, she is so adorable!! I love the expressions so much! When did our babies become big girls?? Happy birthday sweetie! Have an awesome vacation!!

Pam Caudill: She looks so grown up! Hope you have a great vacation.

April: Happy Birthday, have fun on your vacation :)

Krissy Allori: My baby girl just turned 3 too! Enjoy your vacation!

kati: oh my she is adorable 3 is tough.

Ramsey Garza: What sweet expressions! Happy Birthday to your little girl.

Emily: Haha. Your sister makes the same face as the first picture all the time! She's a cutie!

So very soon, in fact.  This mama is due in just a week and a half.  I know this beautiful mom just can’t wait to meet her new little girl–neither can I, for that matter!  There is just something so wonderfully gratifying about being invited in to share in such a special and ultimately life-changing time in a person’s life.  I felt so honored that Erin chose me to document her pregnancy.  Here she is in all her pregnancy loveliness…

…but not for very much longer!

Just love all the rich, warm colors in this first one:

Erin, it was simply a pleasure.  Can’t wait to meet you, baby girl!

Karen Byker: Oh, that second silhouette is FANTASTIC! I love them all...what a cute momma to be. She's glowing!

Chelsie: Gorgeous Mama and beautiful pictures!! She will treasure these forever!!

Melinda D: What a gorgeous mama! Wonderful shots!!

That’s what this little one was–a pure delight.  In fact, 10 minutes into her session I had to tell her to get ornery so it wouldn’t be so hard to narrow down the amazingly cute shots.  Nine months is such a fun age to photograph–babies are sitting so well, most are crawling (an added challenge), and some even have those first little teeth poking up on the bottom.  It’s so fun to watch these babies grow up and turn into the little people they are going to be.  Here she is at 6 days and 4 months, cute as ever.  Okay, enough from me, let’s get to the images:).

I am warning you, I did a horrible job narrowing them down for the sneak peek.  You’ll just have to suffer through cute baby overload.  Deal with it:).

This darling headband from the belle and the beau went so perfectly with her sweet outfit!

I have one like this where she is smiling, but this one just makes my hear go pitter-pat;).

Gosh, I love those little teeth!

Love!

Okay, these just make me giggle–hat is from the belle and the beau too.

What can I even say about this one?  Love, love, love:).

And, finally, sweet outfits and fun accessories are all fine and good, but if you ask me, birthday suits are always the height of baby fashion:).

Thanks for coming to play!  Hugs!

Heather: Lovely, Jess! She is a beautiful little girl! I think my favorite of the set is the one in bw of her standing up against the chair!

this n that: These are beautiful. She looks like such a happy baby, so fun! :0) -Shellie

Leandra: What a gorgeous sneak peek, her family is in trouble trying to narrow down their choices. I love that close up showing her teeth, especially after looking back at her 4 month set and seeing the close up with no teeth.

Angela: Ok, how seriously cute!! Amazing light and clarity too...you rocked this!

Tina: Oh my goodness! How in the world could you narrow these down. This is "cuteness" to the extreme!

Jeanette: Aw - she is so beautiful!

Ramsey Garza: These are perfect. I love those little teeth.

Lina: Those two teeth are just too cute! Love it!

Cherron: Oh, my goodness!! These are just too sweet.

Krissy Allori: Jessica, absolutely stunning work, as always. I was wondering if you could email me the color seamless you use with the barn wood floor? Thanks! Krissy

Sweet baby Anna was not so sure about this whole portrait thing.  And, really, who can blame her?  I’d much rather be snuggled up with my mom and dad (or husband and kids) than pretty much anywhere else.  She was such a trooper, though.  I loved seeing just how much she loved her parents–and mom and dad adored her right back.  I was telling them at the session how much she reminds me of my own squishy babies.  I just loved every sweet little roll!

There were so many sweet family shots, but this one just tugs at my little heart strings.

We caught a couple smiles:).

She just loved her little piggie-toes!

Hand down, session favorite for me!

Thanks for coming to play sweetheart!  See you soon:).

Tina: I love that family shot!

mandy: Your lighting is just perfect WOW. I just love the 3rd one. She is such a cutie pie. I would need that one HUGE.

Oh, Baby Boy! I just love you so much–from your tippy-toes to your cute little chin (all 3 of them!). I had a session Saturday, stay tuned for a sweet 6-month old little girl in my next post, and decided to leave my equipment up so I could do a little mini-session with Jack. I cannot believe he is 4 months already. I can hardly stand it.

Just wanted to share the sweet face I find staring up at me all too often at 12:00 a.m. And 1:00. And 2:00. And… well, you get the picture.

Love this little giggle!

We have just discovered how fun toes can be:).

And, oh, I cannot tell you how utterly happy this last one makes me.  That’s my sweet, squishy, smiley boy!

Love you, Peanut!

Jane Photo: So sweet and beautiful images. You can sure see his personality shining in these!

pat jarstad: oh he is so cute and definitely a Washburn can't wait to see him.

Tina: I love watching him grow through your lens Jessica

Sooooo happy.  Giddy, really.  Almost inexplicably so.  Just a silly, goofy grin every time I walk by my little Christmas present to myself:).

I had this image of Jack printed as a 24×36.  You can see said goofy grin in this snap my darling husband took for me:

Yes, Jack’s head in the photo is 3+ times bigger than it is in real life right now.  And yes, I was a bit nervous it might look strange or minimize his tininess at the time, but it really doesn’t.  It’s just beautiful!  For all the anxiety that printing big can sometimes cause (Do I have enough wall space?  Is it going to be overpowering?  Will I regret ordering a print that big?), I can honestly say I have never wished I had printed smaller.  If anything, I just get more excited to order more prints.  That reminds me, I have 4 or 5 more large images that are all ready to go, but never seem to get ordered in between placing client orders… :).

On another note, my husband and I first saw this little piece of genius when our first sweet girl was almost a year old.  Every time I have another baby, it comes rushing back to me and pretty much defines my life right now.

I am doing the best I can to function on super-limited sleep (let’s just say that despite his myriad wonderful qualities, Jack is NOT a sleeper), but I appreciate patience as I continue to occasionally do things like send emails and forget the attachments.  At least the majority of my wonderful clients are experiencing the same phenomenon, and most of the others remember it.  Let’s call it a bonding exercise, ‘kay?

Oh, I just realized I included two self portraits in this post;).

melissa: LOL. I could have written this post - both on the tired, and on the print (tho I only printed a 20x30 of my favorite image of Andrw... and I *wished* I had gone larger!!! :)

Ketti: That print is gorgeous! Now I want something big like that!

KaraRL: Absolutely Amazing! The size is perfect and Jack is such a cutie!!

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2010

Happy New Year to all my clients and blog readers!  I hope this new year brings you joy and a renewed sense of purpose.  I love new beginnings (maybe that explains my affinity for maternity and baby photography).  We sat down last night to discuss resolutions for the new year.  Some of us are reaching for the moon; my oldest resolved to do better at everything she did “bad” on last year.  Some of us chose to focus on a single goal; the two-year old wants to learn to play the Wii that came from grandma and grandpa this year.  No matter what the resolution, though, it’s always such a blessing to have the opportunity to reflect on the past year, take stock of our lives, and move forward with energy and direction.

There are so many exciting things happening for Jessica Washburn Photography in 2010.  I am pleased to be offering my clients both portrait plans and portrait collections this year.  I have spent the past year getting to know my clients needs and researching the absolute highest quality products, and I am so excited about all the new offerings for this new year.  A new website, a new look, and an online shopping cart are all currently in the works, as well.  The biggest news, however, is that 2010 will also be bringing a permanent studio to Jessica Washburn Photography, and I cannot express how excited I am to finally have the space to bring so many images to fruition that so far have only existed in my imagination!  No word yet on a completion date, but I will keep you posted.

Already, 2010 is shaping up to be a fantastic year.  If you are considering having portraits taken, I encourage you to book early.  I have one or two slots available for February and am currently booking into March.  Remember, it’s best to call during the second or third trimester if you are interested in a newborn session, to make sure you are able to secure a session.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2010!

I had the opportunity to photograph two darling little girls for the belle and the beau.  I didn’t have a lot of time with either of them, but it was a fun change of pace to photograph some older subjects, especially such pretty ones.  Their moms have both been so patient.  Enjoy your sneak peek!

I photographed this little “angel” (see blog header) for her first birthday last year.  Mom says she’s entered the stoic phase:).  I can’t get enough of her darling blonde curls and those blue, blue eyes!

Okay, I just love the little brow furrow.

She’s a pretty lucky mom who gets to hear sweet two-year old whispers out of this darling mouth every day:).

This lovely lady was so much fum to spend time with–and she came with a lot of ideas about what to wear and how to pose.  Her red hair just kills me–LOVE it!  Mom was in another room while we shot, and I know she’s been dying to see what we captured.

Just so CUTE!

Total session favorite!  She put this outfit together:).

Thanks so much girls!  It was so fun to spend a bit of the afternoon with you!

jennifer adams: awww what beautiful girls, I just love their curly hair, and that pink flower band!

melissa: Aw, look at that red hair - gorgeous! And love the pouty look on the younger little girl - such cute captures:)

Robbie: Aww these are precious! They are gorgeous images and your lighting is perfection!

Cherron: Both of these little ladies have hair that I hope one of my daughters will have! They are precious and I love the headbands.

Karen Harrison: These are simply gorgeous! Lovely little girls, and beautiful work from you. Love 'em!

Dana: Oh, I love them all. I love the seriousness of the 2yr old - so typical for that age. I love the one of her playing with the block train. And the red-head - oh, that last one is perfect!!!!

Tanya: These are to DIE for!! What beautiful lighting, and stunning models! That hair!!!

Ketti: The last one is so adorable! Great work!
