Sooooo happy.  Giddy, really.  Almost inexplicably so.  Just a silly, goofy grin every time I walk by my little Christmas present to myself:).

I had this image of Jack printed as a 24×36.  You can see said goofy grin in this snap my darling husband took for me:

Yes, Jack’s head in the photo is 3+ times bigger than it is in real life right now.  And yes, I was a bit nervous it might look strange or minimize his tininess at the time, but it really doesn’t.  It’s just beautiful!  For all the anxiety that printing big can sometimes cause (Do I have enough wall space?  Is it going to be overpowering?  Will I regret ordering a print that big?), I can honestly say I have never wished I had printed smaller.  If anything, I just get more excited to order more prints.  That reminds me, I have 4 or 5 more large images that are all ready to go, but never seem to get ordered in between placing client orders… :).

On another note, my husband and I first saw this little piece of genius when our first sweet girl was almost a year old.  Every time I have another baby, it comes rushing back to me and pretty much defines my life right now.

I am doing the best I can to function on super-limited sleep (let’s just say that despite his myriad wonderful qualities, Jack is NOT a sleeper), but I appreciate patience as I continue to occasionally do things like send emails and forget the attachments.  At least the majority of my wonderful clients are experiencing the same phenomenon, and most of the others remember it.  Let’s call it a bonding exercise, ‘kay?

Oh, I just realized I included two self portraits in this post;).

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2010

Happy New Year to all my clients and blog readers!  I hope this new year brings you joy and a renewed sense of purpose.  I love new beginnings (maybe that explains my affinity for maternity and baby photography).  We sat down last night to discuss resolutions for the new year.  Some of us are reaching for the moon; my oldest resolved to do better at everything she did “bad” on last year.  Some of us chose to focus on a single goal; the two-year old wants to learn to play the Wii that came from grandma and grandpa this year.  No matter what the resolution, though, it’s always such a blessing to have the opportunity to reflect on the past year, take stock of our lives, and move forward with energy and direction.

There are so many exciting things happening for Jessica Washburn Photography in 2010.  I am pleased to be offering my clients both portrait plans and portrait collections this year.  I have spent the past year getting to know my clients needs and researching the absolute highest quality products, and I am so excited about all the new offerings for this new year.  A new website, a new look, and an online shopping cart are all currently in the works, as well.  The biggest news, however, is that 2010 will also be bringing a permanent studio to Jessica Washburn Photography, and I cannot express how excited I am to finally have the space to bring so many images to fruition that so far have only existed in my imagination!  No word yet on a completion date, but I will keep you posted.

Already, 2010 is shaping up to be a fantastic year.  If you are considering having portraits taken, I encourage you to book early.  I have one or two slots available for February and am currently booking into March.  Remember, it’s best to call during the second or third trimester if you are interested in a newborn session, to make sure you are able to secure a session.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2010!

Well, it’s been quite a week!  I came down with a horrible sore throat on the Fourth and it quickly escalated into what I will now refer to as “exploding face syndrome.”  You know that feeling where your sinuses are so congested that your eyes, cheeks and even teeth hurt?  Yeah, that was me all week.  After four straight days in bed (illness during pregnancy is always extra-fun), I think I am finally on the mend.  I hope to have a bunch of sneak peeks up in the next few days.  In the meantime, if you need a photo-fix, you can check out these links:

As I mentioned before, the Baby as Art workshop was just amazing.  It was beyond inspiring to be surrounded by so many talented women in the Baby as Art team and the other workshop attendees.  You can see our “class photo” here.

Also, while I was in Utah for the day on the way home from San Diego I had the supreme pleasure of meeting up with my good friend Tiffany from Follow Your Art Photography for some maternity photos.  Tiffany is just one of my favorite people and she has an eye for light, color and the perfect location that is rarely matched.  If you are anywhere in Utah and in need of some amazing portraiture, definitely look her up–you will not be disappointed!  Keep in mind that our shoot was sandwiched in between two plane rides and four sessions of my own, and she still managed to make me look and feel beautiful.  That’s some real talent:).  You can check my photos out on her blog here and here.  Thanks a million times over, Tiff!

Okay, it’s me!  Much thanks to my darling husband for humoring me this afternoon and capturing all 26.5 weeks of my own growing belly.  As I get geared up for this final trimester of pregnancy and the upcoming arrival of our very first baby boy (after three girls, I still don’t really believe it!) in mid-September, I wanted to make an announcement about how this will affect Jessica Washburn Photography.  I will be taking regular sessions through the end of July (just a few more spots open so if you are looking to book, call now!).  Beginning in August, I will not be taking family or child sessions until the beginning of next year.

This was a very difficult decision to make, but I truly believe that there really aren’t any small moments during those first few months of a new baby’s life–each one is precious and all too fleeting.  It’s important to me that I take time off to recover and to just drink in the sweetness of getting to know the  newest member of our family.  Conversely, it is essential to my work that throughout your session experience with Jessica Washburn Photography, I really be present for and enjoy the moments I get to spend with your family.   I look forward to spending that time with you in 2010.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or need a referral, don’t hesitate to ask:).

If, however, you are looking to book a maternity or newborn session, before the end of the year, I don’t expect you to take my family planning into account when you plan yours:).  And, in fact, if you are looking to book this year, it’s already a little late for that anyway.  Give me a call or shoot me an email and we’ll discuss how to fit you in.  You know I can’t resist a gorgeous belly or a sweet bundle of newborn perfection!

There’s a shiny new button up in the header.  I finally got my galleries all resized and prepped for this blog, so if you’d like to see more of my work click on the “Portfolio” tab.
