I love my job.  I absolutely love everything about meeting new families and sharing in their excitement and they welcome new little people into their families.  I love how raw and real and immediate those feelings are in a new family–the excitement, the nerves, the pure adoration.  I get a little fluttery feeling in my stomach whenever a new baby comes to see me in the studio as I think about what each baby will be like and who he or she will turn out to be.

So… imagine all those feelings and then multiply them by about 5,000 and you will understand what has been going through my heart and mind over the past few months as I have been getting used to the fact that baby Washburn #5 is on the way.  A little bit of terror, quite a deal of exhaustion and nausea, and a lot of excitement.

I am officially in my second trimester and baby #5 is due to arrive the first week of September, but if things go as they historically have for me, we should be a family of 7 by mid- to late-August.  What does that mean?  Well, for me it means a whole heap of things that I probably don’t need to get into right here and now. For my clients, it means that I will not be shooting any sessions in August or September, but may take limited newborn sessions beginning mid-October through the end of the year.  It means that I may need a little bit of patience as I tend to need way more sleep that usual and don’t have as many working hours in my day.  It means that there should be way too many darling baby posts coming your way this summer and fall:).

In the meantime, I am back from vacation and things are up and running again.  Many, many March babies are coming up and I can’t wait to meet them all.  Until then, here’s a little bit of warmth captured in South Carolina and brought back home to the frigid, wet, not-quite-spring-yet Northeast.

What an amazing year 2010 has been for me. I was able to be among the first to meet 26 brand new little people as they began their journeys this year. I am truly humbled and honored and grateful for everyone of my wonderful clients who have welcomed me into this most special and fleeting time in their families’ lives this year. Looking back over the images from this last year, I am reminded yet again of how truly unique and beautiful every single baby is, how much he or she is loved, and just how much personality and potential is crammed into each of those tiny, new little bodies.

Thank you so much for making 2010 such an unforgettable year.   2011 promises to be just as wonderful, and I cannot wait to meet so many clients who haven’t even been born yet.  Just as an announcement, the focus of Jessica Washburn Photography will be shifting to primarily newborn sessions next year.  I will continue to book maternity sessions for newborn clients, as well as follow-up baby sessions for my newborn clients, but I will not be booking family sessions in the new year (with the exception of those already booked–not to worry).  I look forward to a year of snuggling, soothing, lots of laundry and sweet baby perfection–can’t wait!

I absolutely adore my coffee table book vendor.

Seriously.

As in, I kind of want to keep all of my client books for myself when they come in.  So… I was honored to have a recent book design selected to be featured on their Facebook page.  You can find their page here, and you can view the book design here:).

If you are a client with a session coming up, coffee table books are absolutely my most favorite way to ensure that clients are able to enjoy all of their session images for years and years to come.  If you are a photographer looking for an amazing product, consider AsukaBook.  Really, their quality, customer service and attention to detail cannot be matched.  Happy viewing!

After many months (too many, far too many) my new website is finally complete and up and running.  I am so excited to have such a clean, beautiful way to showcase my work and all of my gorgeous clients:).  Feel free to take a look around:

Yay!

I cannot express how ready I was for this downright balmy weather we’ve had the past few days!  And while we may not be able to say goodbye to winter for good here in the Capital Region just yet, it’s time to start dreaming of crocuses, forsythia, and apple blossoms.  The fabulous people at Lindsey’s Orchard here in Clifton Park have generously granted me permission to use their property for some mini-sessions while their gorgeous trees are in bloom this year.

Mini sessions will be a fabulous way to allow as many families as possible the opportunity to take advantage of the short time the trees are in blossom.  If you have never experienced a custom photography session, they are also a great way to try one out.  Mini sessions last 30-45 minutes, are never rushed, and yield approximately 10-12 proofs.  Blossoming apple orchards are almost magical in their beauty and I have so many fun ideas for how to emphasize that in these sessions.  To see how beautiful the orchard looked last year, click here.

If you are interested in booking a mini session, contact me quickly.  Only a few of these sessions will be available and when they are booked, they’re booked.
